This is an easy one. Make sure you go with the full-on presentation: orange box, booklet on how to wear the scarf and a scarf with a design that suits her. These silk scarves have been fashion gifts for decades. 
They’re so popular, there are lots of knock-offs out there, so buyer beware. Ebay has an entire page devoted to sniffing out a fake Hermes. Hermes makes other items, but the silk scarf is the gold standard. Be safe and buy them online at Hermes.com, for about $325 per scarf, or visit one of their 19 stores in the U.S. They offer beautiful, complex designs in a variety of colors, such as orange, pink, blue or black. They even show you how they look tied.
You can find vintage Hermes scarves online, like from this London seller, but you run a big risk of buying a fake. This website tells you how to wear one, and there are lots of Hermes collector sites on the web
