The classic Sony Walkman was to a high-end stereo system what the iPod is to the … what? There really hasn’t been much for audiophiles to get gaga about in our nascent digital music revolution. But a company called Olive may change that with its family of CD-players that combine high quality storage with media management and home networking capability. The Musica ($1,099, shown) has a 160 GB hard drive and holds 40,000 MP3 quality songs or 6,000 in “lossless” quality. An integrated database reads the CD details and stores it. The player features both a wireless and a wired ethernet connection so you can access music from other devices, and it has the ability to stream from the Musica to a PC or Mac. And for the way serious audiophile (those with an “11″ on their volume control), the Opus ($2,999) has a 400 GB hard drive to store up to 1,100 CDs in lossless quality. Both units are available directly from Olive.
