Lot #795: Oscar statuettes are dearly prized collectibles; in fact, the Academy works hard to keep them from being sold at all. This statue, though, is even rarer than the Oscar: Thalberg awards are those lifetime-achievement honors that aren’t even handed out every year. This one, bestowed on producer Darryl F. Zanuck, was the first such award.
Lot #812: Memorabilia you can hang on the wall or display on a shelf is great, but if I were a billionaire I would have been very tempted to buy this chair — one of the rattan ones used on the set of Casablanca — and sit in it every day, whistling As Time Goes By.
Lot #815 makes you feel a little evil just by looking at it. The red-orange robe worn by Flash Gordon’s nemesis Ming the Merciless boasts a vicious peaked collar and a lightning-bolt motif sure to instill fear in your dinner guests.
Lot #832: Original screen-worn wardrobe is some of the most appealing movie memorabilia out there, and this overcoat worn by
Mary Poppins surely has a place in history. We know, of course, that many collectors are less interested in Disney kids’ fare than in the babes populating the Star Trek universe, which is why it wouldn’t shock me to see Lot #905, the form-fitting one-piece worn by Counselor Deanna Troi, go for more than its $4,000 to $6,000 estimated selling price.
Lot #895: This one is a phaser once wielded by Captain James T. Kirk of original Star Trek. ‘Nuff said — even if it was from the mid-period “Search for Spock” and not the original TV series.
