Bikinis Away!
Blogged under Apparel, Lists by Barbara Kessler on Wednesday 12 July 2006

I would only be caught dead in this swimsuit — my husband would have to shoot me. But for those of you who remain ah, comfortable in beach settings, this is the perfect time to be buying a second swimsuit. In fact, wait any longer and the choices will be as minimal as that string bikini we wore when we were 18. This suit is from a website with an amazing inventory of swimwear and casual clothing and some fabulous prints called Venus. It’s out of Florida and has been around since the ’80s. For more conservative selections see trusted swimsuit suppliers: Lands End and LLBean, though selection is dwindling, especially at Bean.

Underneath, But Not Unappreciated

Oriental Rugs are proliferating on the Internet and no wonder, they bring so much to interiors — as small accents, entry rugs or for gorgeous full room coverage. While recently shopping for a Persian rug (our personal taste tends toward the traditional but colorful styles produced in central Iran), we noticed that online merchants are offering many ways to assure that you get what you expect. At Rugman, we consulted a designer who looked at an emailed picture of our family room to see if we were on the mark color- and size-wise. Other sites also are offering live help, friendly return policies and extensive info guides. Emmett Eiland has a good article on decorating with these rugs; Jacobsen Rugs includes a piece about how they (and you) can avoid rugs that exploit child labor; and for deep, rambling ruminations on rugs, both new and antique, see J. Barry O’Connell Jr.’s website. (Tabriz rug above available on Rugman.)

Views to Remember

While we were off on vacation (you did miss us during June, didn’t you?) in Northern Virginia, we dropped by an art show and came across the glorious work of photographer Mary Louise Ravese. We had a chance to visit with her briefly and found her to be as delightful as her work is stunning. We bought a couple of her prints but wanted to share the results of her exceptional ability with all our Shopperati friends. Check out a selection of her works at her site, such as this image “Beach of Gold” that was shot in Sitka, Alaska. If you can’t make it to any of Mary Louise’s shows, you can place an order from her site.
