Neiman Marcus is out with its list of 10 trends for spring, and who wouldn’t like the skinny suit, lace, cropped pants or shorts. But gladiator sandals??! Now that’s what we call a “retro” look! JCPenney is rolling out its new Studio line, a home furnishings collection designed to attract urban shoppers. The modern, relaxed styling “is neither trendy, chrome nor minimalist,” says Deb Evans, vice president of JCP home product development. “It’s a clear departure from what we’ve had.” No kidding! Check out this suede blocks bedding in understated, sophisticated colors. The collection now available in JCP stores and on the web includes key home décor items: area rugs, bedding, bath, lamps and window coverings. Look for furniture and tabletop items to arrive in July.

Put down that snow shovel and turn your thoughts to making a great first impression with your neighbors. It’s almost spring and Lowe’s has a simple project to brighten your home’s front entry. Their plan calls for mixing plants such as ivy, liriope, geraniums and snapdragons in small, medium and large planters for a dazzling display of color. Lowe’s estimates the project cost at $360 and says it’s easy enough for beginners. Well, we’ll be the judge of that after we finish without dropping a planter on our big toe.
