Where the best-dressed Halloween fairies shop
Blogged under Costumes, Halloween by Pamela Stone on Thursday 9 October 2008

Show us a little girl and odds are good that at some point in her childhood, she will want to be a fairy for Halloween.

Enter Costumes Fairy, a small business in Ashland, Ore., where the most beautiful fairy costumes are hand-made by a couple (Richard and Robin Reno, who goes by the alias Earth Star). The costumes are made from sturdy but ethereal fabrics that are “non-itchy”

Recently, Town and Country magazine asked Earth Star to provide costumes for Brooke Shields’ daughters to wear during a photo shoot.

Among their offerings are the fairy moon princess, (above left), which features two layers of soft tulle, trimmed in satin. Without wings, the costume is $65, and with wings it’s $95. The Cinderella fairy dress (above right) is another wonderous costume at $55 (without wings).

The lilly fairy dress (above) will have her floating in a flurry of pink petals. It comes with attached wings, for $50. Add an extra  ”touch of magic” with the fairy magic wand ($13) of course, and she’s likely going to need wings to fly, for $30.

There are items for boys, also - wizards, knights, capes and crowns. They can make their own magic with Harry Potter’s wizard cape ($57) or the Knight’s Tabard 3-piece set (above right), is perfect for a fierce battle. It includes a medieval tunic emblazoned with a battle crest, as well as a helmet. All are made with sturdy, long-lasting material. ($60). There are even golden lame crowns for a boy or girl, $19, which are washable, reversible and will fit any head.

There are fairy dresses for babies and toddlers (such as the soft star fairy dress, $41.) And if mom is so inspired she wants a fairy costume of her own, she can choose from an assortment, and may light upon the tutu fairy skirt for $35.

They will custom make a costume if you want, but you probably wouldn’t get that in time for this year’s Halloween.
