With fall now officially here, it’s time to transition your home from that breezy summer look t
o something more mellow and golden. The simplest way to make the seasonal switch is to swap out accessories. Oh sure, you can break out the pumpkins, autumn leaves, wheat stalks and scarecrows and scatter them across every available surface. But do you really need a look that screams, “AUTUMN LEAVES EQUAL FALL! TIME TO PULL OUT THE PUMPKINS!” We’re more intrigued by the challenge of implementing a stealth harvest theme.
Go for the golden with a subtler nod to the season with some of these delectable accessories:
An elegant feathers bouquet with pheasant and guinea hen feathers would look divine on a coffee table, mantel, or even on a wall as art ($55; below).
For tabletop storage or to hold autumn fruit or potpourri, consider Shaker-style circular wood banded boxes ($89)
Add a scent of the great outdoors with lovely aroma cone arrangements from the Home Decorators Collection. We liked the simplicity of the Door County arrangement in a willow basket ($24) and the Hampton arrangement (above) in a patina-finish metal basket ($129).
The resin Faux Bois Branches candelabra is perfect for a console or dining table or even a piano ($39).
Malta lanterns in bronze or black lacquer ($29-$99) strategically placed in a room convey the soft glow of candlelight, and what can be more fall-like than that?
Give your fireplace a new look with this wrought-iron and bronze wheat-sheaf fire screen ($375).
If you simply must have gourds, try:
TouchStone’s pair of filigree gourd candleholders ($38)
These whitewashed decorative pumpkins (available individually from $8 to $24 or in sets from $48 to $64).
These stunning mercury-glass pumpkin candleholders ($24 or $39; right)
Give your walls a makeover too:
We’ll give you a wreath, as long as it’s this tasteful chile herb wreath ($50).
This harvest fruit plaque adds an unexpected twist with its white-washed stone finish (on sale for $140).
Go abstract in fall colors with “Spherical Motion,” a pair of prints by Minnesota artist Norm Olson ($160).
Add a warmer touch to your sofas or easy chairs by replacing your summer pillows with something more autumnal, like the Kundali ($70), Bosley ($80) or Lewellyn ($30) pillows (or check out the selection from Shopperati’s “Herald Autumn with Pretty Pillows”).
Then toss this luxurious faux fur throw ($150; left) on your sofa, and presto! You’re now ready to curl up with a cup of cider, a good book and bask in the glow of your seasonally updated home!
