Slip into something a bit richer for fall

If you’re sick of your summer surroundings, make a stylish seasonal shift by tossing on a new slipcover; one of heavy, rich fabric in deep, warm fall colors.

No, these are not your grandmother’s flowery slipcovers. Today’s stylish sheaths hug your furniture for a sleek custom-fit look.

For a solid, try the soft microfiber faux suede in deep reddish-brown cordovan ($99; $22 for box cushion cover) or the waffle-textured pique covers in garnet (on sale from $80 to $130). The Home Trends coffee satin striped cover (above) is elegant without breaking the bank: $50 for a loveseat; $60 for a sofa.

Nothing says autumn like Stretch & Cover’s luxurious paisley in either beige or green ($122 for the main slipcover, $22 for box cushion covers).

Tricky-to-tuck-in wing chairs or even that well-worn recliner can be covered up. Check out the array of solutions at Surefit, including the Stretch grid wingchair cover in wintery gray ($90) and the stretch royal diamond recliner cover in sage or wine ($90).

Ensure a snug fit with Pottery Barn’s tailoring set of plastic strips to anchor those tucks ($20 for chairs; $30 for sofas).

Disguise a canvas or linen ottoman with an SIS slipcover in a cozy autumn print ($60; right); you can even add coordinating pillows for the sofa and chairs ($22). For more ottoman covers, take a look at Stretch & Fit’s huge selection.

To add some drama to the dining room, drape your chairs with silky damask Beanstock skirted chair covers (left; $79 for set of four or $25 each) or the gold holly damask covers ($8). For not-so-full coverage, you can simply top your chairs off with these festive holly chair bows ($8 for two).

A duvet cover can transform your bedroom: take this lush purple velvet duvet cover with coordinating shams for example ($39-$229; below).

Ultimately, what says fall and winter more than a cozy plaid flannel comforter cover like this Middlebury bedding collection from the Company Store ($69-$109)?

If you’re really ambitious, you can slipcover your entire bed, including your headboard, with the custom slipcover options at the Company Store. For more on selecting slipcovers and getting that perfect fit, see these tips from HGTV.
