Super Stuff: The Perfect Things for a Super Bowl Party
By Michele Chan Santos
The Super Bowl is one of the best reasons all year to give a party. Across the country, folks will gather in living rooms and basements, surrounded by bowls of chips and chili, to watch Super Bowl XLII 2008, on Sunday, February 3.
As a devoted online shopper for Shopperati, it made me wonder: what type of Super Bowl party would be possible on an unlimited budget? And, more practically, what types of items are available online, so that anyone can throw a fantastic Super Bowl party?
Let’s start with the TV. Since this is probably the one party you give each year where everyone is planted around the television (well, at least the guys are), the bigger and more fabulous the better when it comes to your screen.
If I had a Bill Gates budget for my party, the amazing TVs I would consider purchasing online include LG’s 71-inch flat-panel plasma TV, for $15,399. This giant television boasts “cinema-like high-resolution images,” according to its manufacturers, and two-way four-system speakers.
Another incredible television (which, like the LG model, costs about the same as a small car) is the 65-inch plasma HDTV from Panasonic, for $8,999. This model has a “Studio Reference Mode” which enables the TV to replicate colors in movies in the same way they are seen on reference monitors in professional film editing rooms. This means you’ll see movies in exactly the same tones and colors as the director intended. What it means for the Super Bowl is that both the game and the commercials will have superb color quality.
