Vera Wang Courtney Cox wears Chanel. Beyonce has been seen around with Louis Vuitton. Angelina Jolie plays the field with Dior, St. Laurent, Ferragamo and more. Heidi Klum shimmers in Dita (well, when doesn’t she shimmer, dammit?), and Katie Holmes throws an A-list party with Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, Kors and Armani. And we’re all over Celebrity Sunglass Finder, a site dedicated to finding out just what the stars are wearing Here are the Ray Ban Clubmasters, for instance ($104 at Best Buy Eyeglasses), and here’s Ashlee Simpson heading out for the day in them (above left). She also worships the Wayfarers (red ones in this case, above right), which are ubiquitous enough to have their own Wikipedia entry (no, we refuse to mention Risky Business. Get over it. But we will show you a picture of Drew Barrymore wearing the same shades, at right, which are $139 at Bloomie’s).
But her enthusiasm for new, emerging American designers is great for the fashion industry. Even as we race around to finish our humdrum holiday shopping, we admit to an endless fascination with the gifts the beautiful people get and give one another for Christmas and Hanukkah. Bild.com, the online version of the German newspaper, reports on several Hollywood holiday gift trends. Jessica Simpson, Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway (above) are very into retro clothing, so they’re buying themselves and friends vintage blouses and Tiffany jewelry from the ’60s, the report says. (Perhaps like these ’60s Tiffany gold knot earrings for $3,395, above.)
Because it has been at least a week since we reported on the doings of the world’s most loved and ogled celebrity child, Suri Cruise - daughter of Tomkat (you know, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes) - we thought we would just direct you to this fine photo gallery at People.com. There, you can review photographic proof that in the past 12 months Suri routinely donned the cutest clothes of any tot in the world. The red silk Helena and Harry dress, above left, has her looking primed for Christmas, and the floral Janie and Jack, above right, made everyone’s spring just a bit more festive. We’ll keep an eye out to see what she is getting for Christmas. Certainly, whatever it is will be over the top.
Please, do not even think about pulling out yet another of your old LBDs, and banish the thought of that awful Christmas sweater from a few years ago. In case you haven’t noticed, every celebrity worth her Prada pumps has been making the party rounds in sparkling, shimmering, bejeweled, crystal-encrusted and brightly beaded outfits. Designers’ runway offerings for the holiday season are shining like your new LED lights. So take a hint from Sarah Jessica Parker sporting a shimmering, gossamer-like blue Nina Ricci (picture, top, in Harper’s Bazaar), and Ashley Olsen, top right, in a long vest-like Missoni that sparkles in gold with multicolor crystals shining through. Jupiter must be aligning with Mars, or some other celestial event is taking place, because there are more celebrities than ever coming out with their own fashion lines, or stepping up to become spokespeople for fashion houses. Here are just a few of the latest: Heroes star Hayden Panettiere is designing a second handbag for Dooney & Bourke. Not only is the actress their spokesmodel, but now she’s created the “Hayden Clutch” (with a little help from Peter Dooney) that will be sold starting in December for $295, say the enterprising Off the Rack bloggers at People.com. The clutch (pictured above with Panettiere) features a lion’s head gold clasp because that’s Hayden’s astrological sign.
Twilight is the hot new teen movie, a modern-day vampire flick minus any pale, scary old men in black capes. The two stars, Bella and Edward, played by Kristin Stewart and Robert Pattinson, manage to steam up the screen without all of the traditional fashion frills you associate with the living dead. In case you’re out of the Twilight loop (it was also a best-selling book), the tale is of a 16-year-old girl Too bad author Stephanie Meyers didn’t exactly make Bella or Edward the most stylish kids in town. Vampire movies of the past are replete with fashion-forward looks that have vamped up the scene - from Bela Lugosi’s black-cape-and-white-tie Euro-slick looks to the campy Edwardian attire for Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Interview With a Vampire. |
