Bravo network’s Top Design (10 p.m. EDT on Wednesdays) is tops when it c
omes to reality-design shows, and it’s high time that fans of the show take a closer look at lead judge Jonathan Adler, known for that not-so-hot “See ya later, decorator” send-off for last season’s eliminated contestants. Fortunately, he has ditched the catchphrase and is sticking with what he does best: spectacular design for the home.
After getting his start as a potter, Adler moved into interior design, then launched an extraordinarily hot line of furniture, bedding, tableware and more décor goodies. Now look at him - the boy’s a
design TV star. (You can read Jonathan’s quite entertaining curriculum vitae here.)
The last line of the Jonathan Adler Manifesto sums up his design sensibility nicely: “We believe in irreverent luxury.” With vibrant colors, bold designs and a whimsical esthetic, Adler delivers.
What caught our eye were his pottery collections (and it wasn’t just because of the breezy proclamation “Your 24-hour pot dealer”!). Here’s a quick peek.
Relief: These vessels are the ultimate table-toppers: The Bantam bud vase ($40), slide ($78; above left) or Belly ($120).
Menagerie: Love, love, LOVE this set, especially the pink elephant bank ($78), whale pitcher ($95), and jade bird bowl ($65, $85 or $120; right).
Utopia: Oh, that Darjeeling teapot (above) is simply, well, darling ($110), as are the Ray/Dawn mug ($24), the money plate ($75) and the remote box ($110) - at last, a pretty to stash wandering remotes!
Helsinki: Hmmm - Helsinki vase ($110, $135 or $150) or the coordinating tray ($28, $58 or $88; left)? Heck, let’s take one in each size and color.
Grand Tour: The busts are charming, but it’s the Goddess (below) and Soldier lamps ($495 each) that really flipped our switch!
There’s much, much more, so browse away. You even might want to join Club JA to keep up with the latest Adler product previews and special members-only discounts.
Jonathan, we’ll see you later, decorator!
