New on the Menu at Starbucks

First, bookstores added coffee bars. Now, Starbucks is adding books — or, at least a book. Starting this week, you’ll find copies of Mitch Albom’s new best-seller “One More Day” sitting next to the CDs and DVDs that increasing make up the Starbucks experience. The Seattle-based chain that gives us our daily jolt is looking to pump a little juice into a program for at-risk pre-schoolers. The company says it will donate $1 from the sale of each book to Jumpstart, a national nonprofit organization that builds kids’ educational skills. So here’s a chance to do some good while getting your fix. You can check out Mitch’s interview with Ellen DeGeneres here.

Emphasizing the Health in Health and Beauty

Addicted to great looking nails but not thrilled with the Russian Roulette threat that some nail salons present. Your solution may be Dr. Carolyn’s Savvy Nail Kit, which was recently named the best new product for the personal care industry at EXTRACTS, a trade show for new discoveries in beauty and wellness. The kit “allows patrons to carry their own nail care items to their favorite salon for a more hygienic pedicure and manicure.” It contains tub liners and high quality nail care implements which, when used together, help reduce the risk of contracting harmful viral and fungal infections from nail tools and tubs used on other people. For more information and a store locator, visit the collection online.
