Pure Romance
Blogged under Apparel, Boutiques, Lists by Barbara Kessler on Friday 12 May 2006

If you love the new babydoll, silky, strappy tops, you’ll dig the offerings at A Nose for Clothes, a boutique mentioned this week by our Shopperati at Fashionista. A Nose for Clothes, a boutique with stores in Florida and Georgia, offers both upscale and more affordable designer fashions. This silk empire waist creation by Nanette Lapore is romance personified. Find it under Nose’s (no pun intended) sexy and trendy tops category.

Fresh Wear

So many T-shirts, so many designs, so many messages. It’s stimulation overload out there. Trying to find something fresh, something hip and something without an overexposed big-store logo isn’t easy. We like the selection at KarmaLoop.com where we found this design by Kreationism featuring a French designer. Karma also carries Obey, Penguin, LRG, The Artful Dodger, Paul Frank and many more lines to help young men advocate art, peace, chaos or whatever. Oh, they have pants, jackets and all that too.

An Inexpensive, Quick Manicure?
Blogged under Health & Beauty by Barbara Kessler on Tuesday 9 May 2006

It may be too good to be true, but Avon has come up with a solution for those of us who tire of spending more money and time on our nails than we like. They are now selling “Instant Manicure”, a stick-on nail polish that comes pre-cut to fit your nails. You just press it on, trim off the excess and voila! your nails have a salon sheen that’s supposed to last two weeks. Ok, it sounds like something you’d get in a cosmetic kit for your 8-year-old, but maybe not. We can hope it works and for $4.99 a set, we’re going to find out and report back. If you try it, let us know what you think: register to post on Shopperati.

Steaming
Blogged under Lists by Tom Kessler on Monday 8 May 2006

In our relentless effort to get you ready for summer, here’s a pick from Patio Furniture USA.com — a great-looking steamer chair with a three-position back and a handy little tray for drinks so you can relax, close your eyes and pretend you’re on a cruise. This Windsor chaise is made of oil-finished Western Red Cedar, which holds up quite well in the weather, and it costs less than teak (which might actually hold up a little better, but that’s a debate…). At $299 you might want a pair of these and if this one isn’t quite right, Patio Furniture USA offers at least three variations, as well as cushions. We just bought chairs from this company and found that the prices were good, and the delivery timely.

Before You Forget, Make a Wist

We’ve added Wists to our Social Networks. This free service “lets you visually bookmark any page on the web, then automatically create a small image, text summary and add set of keywords without having to save and upload anything.” Cool tool! The social aspect comes into play when you share your bookmarks with friends, family or anyone else who could use a firm hint that these items would make a great gift for YOU. A sister site, Cribcandy, makes it simple to tag items for your home. We’ve added it as our first automated Shopperati.

Bead for Life
Blogged under Non-profits & Good Works by Barbara Kessler on Wednesday 3 May 2006

Abracthreestrand.jpg

Buying jewelry from Bead for Life, a non-profit company based in Boulder, Colorado, helps struggling families in impoverished Uganda make a living off their craft. The beads, made of rolled magazine paper, are strung together in complementary or matching colors and then varnished for durability (but take it off before you go swimming). You can order single-, double- or triple-strand bracelets and necklaces for reasonable prices. The sporty, colorful bracelet shown here is $15. All the profits go back into Ugandan economic development. As a Mother’s Day or year-end gift for a teacher, this is one present that does honorable double duty.
