Some Significant Style Advice from Your Elders
By Lynette Holloway
OK, guys and girls, you’re new to your high school and you’ve gone over your checklist of things you’ll need for the first day: class schedule, check. Home room assignment, check. Supply list, check. But you’re worried about your “steez,” or style, so you will look good walking down the hall. Shopperati caught up with five high school students to help you pick out that all-important back-to-school item. Surprise, surprise, it’s mostly clothes.
Ashley, a senior
“Ohmigod, the Hollister Embarcadero sweater is so hot right now,’’ Tracy said of the stripe pattern cardigan with a ribbed neckline. “I’m wearing one right now.’’ She said a navy T-shirt like the Malibu should be worn under the sweater. Pair it all with dark wash jeans like the Cali flare.

“You will look so hot in this outfit,’’ she said. “You will definitely stand out from the crowd.’’
Tyra, a senior
“The all-important thing you will need this year is the Erin dark skinny jean from Abercrombie & Fitch,’’ she said. “They are hot. Also, go for the Erin skinny destroyed jean. You can’t miss with eithe
r of these.’’
Jesus, a senior
“The only thing you will need is an Abercrombie & Fitch hoodie,’’ he said. “You really want to just be yourself and be casual. The hoodie allows you to do that.’’ The super-soft hoodies (pictured, the Shaw pond dark gray from Abercrombie & Fitch, $69.50) are made of 85 percent cotton and 15 percent polyester.
Emily, a senior
In my opinion, it’s best to mix plain/basic dresses or tops with extremely edgy shoes or boots. With these boots from Urban Outfitters, you can take a plain white T-shirt and skinny jeans and look absolutely fabulous. It gives you that hardcore but simple look lots of designers are going for right now. You can never go wrong with boots. Frye boots just keep getting more popular. You can mix leather boots with almost anything. Also, you can mix them with dresses, like
this one (the silence and noise lace trim tank dress, $98, pictured) or this one from Urban Outfitters, and spice your style up.
Val, a sophomore
“Right now, I think that the hottest things are halter dresses with a funky design, colored leggings or a solid color halter dress with designed leggings, along with a tote bag, belt, flats and sunglasses,’’ she said. “And lately, it seems that men’s vests are in style for girls. So, I think a funky print tank under a button down shirt, with a vest on top of it, with dark skinny jeans, and flats that match the tank (is a good look).”
Steven, a junior
“I personally think the dark low-rise straight leg jean from American Eagle Outfitters is a great pick,’’ said Steven. “It goes with everything and doesn’t look like you’re trying that hard to look good.’’
