If you roll with celebrities and socialites you weren’t surprised that at least three of the best-dressed women on Emmy’s Red Carpet were wearing elegant, graceful Reem Acra gowns.
Christina Applegate had a beautiful metallic gown by Acra in shades of ice blue, Felicity Huffman of Desperate Houswives sparkled in a crystal-studded body-hugging Acra gown, and Olivia Wilde from House wore one of Acra’s gorgeous flowing white dresses with crystal capped sleeves.
Before she became a big-name fashion designer, Reem Acra, (pictured, right) born in Lebanon, was a big-name bridal gown designer (she started that after moving to New York in 1995). Then she moved into evening gowns in 2000, according to New York Magazine, and had her first ready-to-wear collection in spring, 2008.
You can look at some of her gorgeous collections and bridal designs at her Web site,
and also see some of the many celebrities who have worn her designs, rich with detailed beading and embroidery.
The custom couture wedding gowns start at $25,000, but the customized ready-to-wear starts at around $3,000.
Shop her flagship store in New York, or at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. But don’t go to their Web sites to find her handiwork.
You’ll have to hoof it to brick-and-mortar to score an Acra. Specialty stores and bridal boutiques across the U.S. also sell her designs.
