Three new designer lines hit Target

Target’s got a winning fashion trifecta lined up for the month.
Fashionistas looking for a budget-friendly fashion fix can score with designer Anya Hindmarch’s new handbag collection, Sigerson Morrison’s footwear collection and the new Jonathan Saunders clothing collection, all launching in mid-October.
Saunders’ line hit Target’s shelves this past weekend. The Scottish-born designer offers a fresh take on color blocking, knitwear and clean-line silhouettes. Among our trendy favorites: the colorblock dress in white/ebony ($30, above right) and the ombre print skirt in blue whale ($27, above left).

‘Runway’ finals: Too close to call
The sass! The pout! The tears! And that was just Kenley, biting and clawing her way through the last elimination challenge before Project Runway’s season-ending finale in two weeks. The reality TV show that can turn designer wanna-be’s into fashion stars is getting dramatic.
Turns out, Kenley could have kept her composure. Runway judges said the competition was too close, so they didn’t kick anyone off last night. The challenge of the evening, for the designers to create evening gowns inspired by nature, left Jerell, Leanne, Korto and Kenley still in the running. Top prizes on Runway include the chance to show a collection at Fashion Week, a car and $100,000 to start their business.

Here are some sneak peeks from Korto, Kenley, Leanne (above, from left) and Jerell’s runway shows. You’ll see their complete collections on the finale Oct. 15.
Bloggerati: A pat on top shoppers’ backs
Each week, let us call your attention to some of our favorite, fun, entertaining and amazing shopping blogs. They elevate shopping to an art. Or an obsession.
1. Ambika B. of (Into) The Fray shops thrift stores, eBay and designer shops, takes pictures of herself trying on clothes in Anthropologie dressing rooms, and regularly dishes about the boyfriend. September, her blog’s second anniversary, found her rhapsodizing about art, dolman sleeves, crescent necklaces (left), water bottles, Ecoist bags and wildly cool coasters.
2. Slave to Target is a hilarous romp through the aisles of your favor ite discount mega-retailer, with a witty person by your side. Blogger Jill waxes poetic about a paprika-colored handbag for $25 (especially wonderful after she compared it to pricey satchels at Bluefly.com).
3. Tara at She Finds must have watched the Emmy Awards, because she’s been trolling through a pretty selection of crystal drop earrings (right). Browse Swarovski at $12 to Calypso for $90, and practice that saucy head turn that makes them twinkle in the light.

Which designer ruled the red carpet? Reem Acra
If you roll with celebrities and socialites you weren’t surprised that at least three of the best-dressed women on Emmy’s Red Carpet were wearing elegant, graceful Reem Acra gowns.
Christina Applegate had a beautiful metallic gown by Acra in shades of ice blue, Felicity Huffman of Desperate Houswives sparkled in a crystal-studded body-hugging Acra gown, and Olivia Wilde from House wore one of Acra’s gorgeous flowing white dresses with crystal capped sleeves.
Before she became a big-name fashion designer, Reem Acra, (pictured, right) born in Lebanon, was a big-name bridal gown designer (she started that after moving to New York in 1995). Then she moved into evening gowns in 2000, according to New York Magazine, and had her first ready-to-wear collection in spring, 2008.

Suddenly, cooks think pink
Pink is suddenly the color in kitchens. It all started in 2001 with a pink KitchenAid stand mixer ($300; right). Each purchase included a donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, launching KitchenAid’s Cook for the Cure initiative, which has raised more than $5 million. Now there’s a whole line of Cook for the Cure products, including:

Take a peek inside a Hero’s closet

NBC’s Heroes returns for its third season on Sept. 22. One of the show’s stars is also an up-and-coming fashionista. Ha yden Panettiere, who portrays cheerleader Claire, steps up to the hero role in real life with PanettiereCloset.com in which the actress sells off clothes straight from her closet, with proceeds going to her Save the Whales Again campaign. As Hayden says, “Cleaning out my closet is just the beginning; and putting my stuff up for sale is the first step in a crusade that will go a long way to helping these majestic mammals.”
In fact, Hayden just closed a moving sale, featuring furnishings from her family’s home. Every now and then, PanettiereCloset features an auction, most recently the Summer Breeze dress Hayden wore in her summer Candie’s photo shoot (it went for a cool $2,020).

What was in stars’ Emmy swag bags?
Who better to give lots of expensive, free stuff to than rich and pampered celebrities? An enduring Emmy tradition are the “gift suites” scattered around L.A. before the ceremony. Sponsored by publicists and retail lines, they consider the freebies good publicity.

Some sponsors had the good sense to offer their profits to charities, such as Brad Pitt’s Make It Right NOLA or for breast cancer awareness. And the goodies were handed out based on a celeb’s star status: A-listers got more good stuff than little-known celebs.
So what do stars get just for being stars?
- Valentino, Jimmy Choo, YSL and Carrera sunglasses (YSL glasses, above)
- Tori Spelling was spotted leaving one suite with a new Panasonic camera, $400 in New Balance workout clothes and $500 in Spreegirl lingerie (pictured above, left)

Spring ‘09 fashion alert: jumpsuits

Blam e it on Elvis. He made jumpsuits stylish in the ’60s and ‘70. Of course, technicians and laborers (not to mention prisoners) wear them still. In the past, designers have dabbled with the jumpsuit idea, but they never fully commit. Spring 2009 may change that. Jumpsuits (and rompers) were all over the runways at the recent New York shows. It’s as if the fashion elite all jumped on a conference call and said: “Hey, let’s all make jumpsuits!”
Thanks to the skilled eyes at WWD, and the thorough runway coverage of Style.com, we’ve found some examples of the jumpsuit parade. Some looked pretty, sleek and elongating, like a black one by Ralph Lauren (pictured right), a shiny white one from Proenza Schouler or a draped gold satin one by Diane von Furstenberg (pictured left). The drape of a pale taupe one-piece from Derek Lam and a fabulous Halston take on the style looked wonderful (maybe because with all the draping and looseness, you couldn’t really tell they were jumpsuits).
