Shop pink to battle breast cancer

In honor of October’s being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many retailers are dedicating a portion of the proceeds from a variety of Pink Ribbon products and services to breast cancer care, research and prevention. So when you shop this month, you can also make a difference by contributing.

Among the many pink offerings are:

The charming sterling-silver Zales charity bracelet made of pink cultured freshwater pearls and rose quartz ($100, right); $25 from each sale goes to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Shopbop has pink Ts designed by celebrities Hilary Duff, Nicky Hilton, Cindy Crawford and Denise Richards, The shirts are $88 and half of the proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Network of Strength.

Sony’s “pink bundles” with products like the pink VAIO notebook ($1,500, above), the Handycam Camcorder and the Walkman; proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Clinique’s limited-edition Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion ($35, left), which contributes $10 to the foundation with every purchase.

Sephora’s array of Pink Ribbon products this month include BalmShell lip gloss ($22), Donna Karan Cashmere Mist fragrance ($55) and the Sephora BCA pocket brush set ($15). Each brand gives to a different organization.

Payless guarantee of a minimum corporate donation of $100,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure with sales of its cushy pink and white slippers ($13, left) this month.

White House/Black Market’s sale of Hope charm key rings ($22) and Hope pink croc watches ($58), among other items, will lead to a $200,000 contribution to Living Beyond Breast Cancer by the retailer.

Even Barbie and Mattel are thinking pink with $2.50 from each Pink Ribbon Barbie (right) going to Komen for the Cure.

If you can’t shop a lot this month, never fear; several retailers also have year-round initiatives that benefit breast cancer causes:

Ralph Lauren’s Pink Pony campaign donates 10 percent of sales proceeds to the Pink Pony Fund, a global initiative to battle cancer. Among the items at the Pink Pony Shop: the Hope Beaded Pony T ($198), the classic Polo with a beaded pink pony  ($155),the Pink Pony skirt ($98) and the mini Pink Pony handbag in white or black ($45, below).

KitchenAid’s Cook for Cure has already donated $5 million to Komen for the Cure since 2001, with proceeds from the sale of various pink KitchenAid appliances and cookware.

Oreck’s Clean for the Cure program has donated $1 million to Susan G. Komen for the Cure by giving $25 from every special edition Oreck XL Power Team.
