A heartfelt letter to the RNC

We at Shopperati understand all that money you spent on Sarah Palin’s clothes. We don’t see why the media has their panties in a bunch over a little $49,000 bill at Saks. And everyone knows that $79,000 at Neiman’s buys practically nothing these days. Nothing.

So rest assured that we are on your side. We think that outlay for a month’s wardrobe is completely appropriate, and we actually have a suggestion: Take some of those ziillions of advertising dollars and spread the wealth around among other fashionistas! You’re guaranteed more buzz for your buck.

Do you hear what we’re saying? For the right price, our vote can be bought. Never mind Joe the Plumber. It’s us you want.

Here’s how we’d spend that $49,000 at Saks, for starters. And we’d promise you way more traction than Gov. Palin’s getting in those lookalike suits.

Every platform needs a tasteful LBD with killer shoes: Alexander McQueen’s bow-back empire dress, ($1,595, above) with Christian Louboutin’s red pointy toe pumps ($645, above)

Be the best-dressed in the Situation Room: Brunello Cucinelli cashmere long cardigan ($1,765) over his chiffon overlay camisole ($585) and wool and flannel cashmere pants ($595)  and the Bottega Veneta suede platform pumps ($690, above).

For a night at the Kennedy Center: Badgley Mischka’s strapless silk chiffon gown ($1,195, left) with Gucci’s Tattoo heart slingbacks ($695, right)

When you need a little authority in the West Wing: Dolce & Gabbana’s ocelot print tank top ($445), peeking out beneath their matelasse fitted blazer ($825), but slyly positioned over 7 For All Mankind’s Dojo crystal wide-leg Jeans ($245), just to emphasize that All-American thing.

Every hockey mom needs one: Yves St. Laurent’s hooded trench ($2,890, above left) with Christian Louboutin’s Chaperon wedge shoe booties ($995)

What a maverick wears to the Inaugural Ball: Zac Posen’s ombre print silk dress ($2,300, above center) with Jimmy Choo’s suede Erica shoe bootie ($1,395, above, sigh). And we cannot forget the after-party: Catherine Malandrino’s silk carmeuse dress, $595 (above, right.)

Don’t ignore our spot on Oprah the next day: Ralph Lauren’s Bergman embroidered skirt ($6,000, left) and Aran cropped sweater ($1,098).

Not to mention that we need a superior selection of handbags, if for no other reason than to be able to beat Senate members into submission. We’re lusting for Dolce & Gabbana’s Miss Rouche distressed tote ($1,995), Fendi’s vintage leather baguette ($2,090), Gucci’s Jockey large hobo ($1,750) and Marc Jacobs’ Palais Royale calf bag ($850). We can’t really control ourselves over Chloe’s Heloise convertible satchel ($1,875) or Donna Karan modern Libra saddle bag ($2,195). And we’re employing lobbyists to get us Gucci’s medium babouska heart bag ($2,495, right).

Dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s: A little Cartier white gold Love watch ($6,475), to keep us on schedule; Gucci’s horsebit earrings ($2,290, below) and horsebit necklace ($1,390), just because we like dangly, pretty things, and Prada aviator sunglasses ($415, below) to finish the look.

That gets us to just about $48,928. We’re leaving the rest for taxes, because we know you want some.  By the way, spending this much has exhausted us. Perhaps we aren’t cut out for politics after all.
