Hear That Buzz? It’s Stylehive

abaete-sequined-tank-dress-bergdorf-goodman.jpgSometimes, a single website is worth its weight in trendy little gold clutches, and Stylehive.com is one such place. It is kind of a Facebook for style and fashion junkies of all stripes – from clothing to purses to makeup to home furnishings to artful décor and on and on. It features the web wanderings of its busy style-bees as they continue their never-ending search for the coolest new thing to buy or admire. If you want to check it out, you can look at the day’s most tagged, or most popular, items spotted on the web by the hive’s bees in lots of categories – from furniture to fashion. Yesterday, for example, folks tagging items in the fashion category liked a cute sequined tank dress by Abaete on sale at Bergdorf  Goodman (and it’s marked down to $248). In the Unique category, there was a bit of buzz about a cute little owl ring that’s for sale at ReVision Jewelry for $24.99. You can look at words of wisdom from the hive’s most popular members and what they (and their followers) are coveting today – like Lisanne816, who has more than 100 followers and yesterday was showing them all a zingy pair of mouse-faced Marc Jacobs slingback slip-ons that are $325.

A Site for Sore Shoppers’ Eyes: PlumParty Is Plain Fun
Blogged under Gifts, Holiday shopping, Sites You're Shopping by Michele Chan Santos on Wednesday 28 November 2007

jingle-bell-napkin-rings.jpgSometimes, finding a clever stocking stuffer or party favor can be tougher than finding larger, more expensive gifts. Happily, PlumParty is here to help. This site is packed with adorable and funny little presents. A set of pretty and fun Jingle Bells Napkin Rings is $21 for four. Children will sprint outside to make a snowman once they unwrap the Snowman in a Box decorating kit. It’s $15 and includes eyes, corn cob pipe, button nose and hat. You just add the snow. A creative item that plays off Christmas warnings to unruly children  - “There’s going to be lump of coal in your stocking if you’re bad” - is a 5-oz. bag of candy coal for $8. Lastly, after assembling bicycles, dollhouses and other frustration-inducing toys, parents might need an adult beverage. Enjoy that Christmas sip in a peppermint-candy shot glass (a set of two is $6.50).

Stop Working and Start Shopping: It’s Cyber Monday
Blogged under Current Sales and Offers, Discount, Gifts, Holiday shopping, Major Department Stores, Sites You're Shopping by Melissa Segrest on Monday 26 November 2007

macys_diamond_earrings.jpgIt’s your first day at the office after the Thanksgiving break, but that’s no reason to start working. This is the traditional day when online shopping spikes. Swivel around so the boss can’t see and let’s get started. We surfed 17 major retail websites in search of bargains - and for the most part, we were disappointed. Many of the big box stores had little in the way of discounted items for today. Most were honking their horns about free shipping after you spend a certain amount, but that doesn’t sound very special to us. A few decent sounding bargains popped up, such as Walmart’s Cyber Monday specials (an Xbox 360 for $400 and a 42″ Sony LCD HDTV for $1,298). Best Buy’s sale ends tonight and kohls_cuisinart_stand_mixer.jpgthey’re touting lowered prices on navigation systems, TVs and Ipods/MP3s (although it looks like you only save about $10 on those). Costco says you can save $200 on a folding treadmill and $20 off a digital picture frame. Sears is taking 10 percent off all appliances, 10 percent cash back on home theaters and big discounts on tools. At CircuitCity.com, their 3-day sale lets you save an extra 10 percent if you shop online but pick up your item at the store. Major retailers whose Cyber Monday deals were less than impressive (if they had sale items at all) were Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Nordstrom, Amazon.com, Brookstone, Crate and Barrel and Sephora. Some sites did have solid sale prices, but they were kind of hidden, such as this page on Saks.com or this one on Sharper Image’s site. Pottery Barn had some good prices on their sale page. So who had the best deals this Cyber Monday? Macy’s and Kohls. Macy’s “Web Busters” offered $600 diamond earrings for $200 and a man’s leather jacket worth $575 was $229. Kohls was substantially knocking down the cost of their Simply Vera Vera Wang clothing line, as well as kitchen items, outerwear and fine jewelry. On top of that, their Gold Star clearance page cut prices by 60 to 80 percent ($45 towels for $9, for example).

What to Do When Bambi Strikes
Blogged under House and Garden, Sites You're Shopping by Shopperati Partners on Thursday 19 April 2007

If you have mature plants that are being devoured by deer — it’s time to take action. Deer Repellents can be very effective and easy to use. Deer will almost always stay away from plants that offend two or more senses. Therefore, if a plant tastes and smells offensive deer will avoid the general area it’s planted in. Deer resistant gardener use’s this knowledge to their advantage. Yardiac.com recommends using two deer deterrents together (one that offends the sense of smell and one that offends the sense of taste) they will render your tasty plant repulsive to deer. The best combination we have found is:

Tree Guard or Hot Pepper Wax used in conjunction with Coyote Urine.

Using two products will activate the sense of smell and taste and encourage the deer to move on to more attractive foliage (hopefully not your neighbors’). You can learn more about or purchase these products at Yardiac.com’s animal repellent department.
